The biggest surprise of round 10 in Liga MB was guest Santa Ana's (#2) road victory over Salvadorenos (#4) 88-78 on Tuesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Salvadorenos. Santa Ana forced 19 Salvadorenos turnovers. Strangely Salvadorenos outrebounded Santa Ana 39-27 including 33 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American Timothy Simmons (195-1992, college: DBU) fired 27 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Puerto Rican point guard Lee Vazquez (173-1991, college: Westfield St.) chipped in 32 points and 6 assists. Power forward Brayan Garcia (194-1998) produced 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Santa Ana (8-2) have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position having just one point less than leader San Salvador, which they share with Metapan. Salvadorenos at the other side keep the fourth place with three games lost. Santa Ana is looking forward to face A.Lobos (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Salvadorenos will play against Santa Tecla and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Eighth-ranked Brujos (2-8) made lots of trouble for third ranked Metapan (8-2) in Izalco. The visitors from Metapan managed to secure only two-point victory 92-90. However their fans expected much easier game. Worth to mention a great performance of Cuban forward Yoel Cubillas (204-1994) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks. Eddie Ishman contributed with 23 points, 19 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Dominican Eusebio Suero replied with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 16 rebounds for Brujos. Brujos' coach Anibal Mendez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Metapan have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Santa Ana. Brujos lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with eight games lost. They share it with Fantasmas. Metapan will play against bottom-ranked Santiagueno (#10) in Usultan in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brujos will have a break next round.
The game in San Vicente was also quite interesting. Sixth ranked Cojute (5-5) played at the court of 8th ranked Fantasmas (2-8). Cojute defeated Fantasmas 78-67 on Tuesday. Frankyn Batista had a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. At the losing side Darius Daniels responded with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Cojute maintains sixth position with 5-5 record. Fantasmas lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Brujos. Cojute will meet at home higher ranked Santa Tecla (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Fantasmas will play against the league's leader San Salvador and hope to secure a win.
